——Climate change impacts on the Mediterranean Coastal Zones
Climate change is widely recognised as a serious threat to the world’s environment. In 1995, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC, 1996a] concluded that: “the balance of evidence suggests that there is a discernible human influence on climate change” and asserted that climate is expected to continue to change in the future. More recently Tett et al. argued that the increase of the superficial temperature of the earth-atmosphere system is nearly entirely correlated with anthropic pressures on the climate system. The fact that these changes are likely to occur at a faster rate than any that have occurred during mankind’s recorded history, is also generally agreed upon.
